My Magic School bus at Kansas Univerisity
by Jim Winn

Attending the University of Kansas can be a challenging as well as an exciting time. As a freshman, I have encountered many new people, ideas, and ways of living on campus. My life has certainly been enlightened by the well of knowledge that resides within the diversity of KU. While exploring the new environment around me, I have also encountered many situations where a mere decision can affect the near or far future. One of my decisions included buying a campus bus pass. With the bus pass, a student can enjoy the luxury of fast, convenient transportation. It is essential for a healthy, enjoyable life.

The "bus pass" sounds like what it can do for a college student-to provide convenient transportation. Why walk to a class that may be three or four blocks away? Or why trudge to class every single day in the cold morning, forcing oneself to stay alert to avoid the dangerous passing cars? When I rode the KU bus for the first time from Templin Hall to Wescoe I immediately came to the conclusion that it was better much than walking. Sure, walking may be great exercise to some students, but for those who just want to get to class as quickly as possible, the bus pass is definitely a must.

My decision to buy a bus pass was formulated from several factors. Before riding the KU bus for the first time, I walked around campus enjoying the beautiful scenery with the shining yellow sun directly above me. I realized, however, that in a few months the sunny weather will drastically change to one with falling snow and blowing winds, capable of cracking healthy, well-nurtured skin. Walking in that type of weather will be a problem. Not to worry, because there is a solution to this bitter cold weather, and it is, of course, the bus pass! The interior of the KU bus, I might mention, is quite cozy compared to the crackling coldness of winter mornings. I would gladly take the KU bus anytime.

The bus pass is $60 for a semester and $110 for a year. I recommend getting the annual pass because it will save a person $10. The bus pass will get where one needs to go around campus. The bus may be crowded at times, but it sure beats walking.
